Blessing Muzarabani, Zimbabwe’s fast bowler, is having a soft natured personality. While talking to ESPNcricinfo, he just answered every question with a smile. Even if he is questioned about the weather of the UK, which he knows well from two seasons as Kolpak signing with Northamptonshire, he smiles.
He also even smiled when asked about his own height. “I’m six foot eight, actually,” he said, whereas it was wrongly recorded as 6ft 6in at ESPNcricinfo.
When he was asked, does he enjoy frightening batters from his extraordinary height? He smiled again by replying, “My greatest weapon is my height.” He learned a lot while growing fast from two great fast bowlers Curtly Ambrose or Courtney Walsh.
Muzarabani’s journey as a cricketer seems different as Zimbabwe don’t have a great number of experienced fast-bowling line-up as the West Indies have. Muzarabani had visited different cricket clubs throughout the world to polish his cricketing skills.
While starting as a young player at Takashinga Cricket Club in Harare, during his time in Northampton which is not a very famous place, to sharpen his skills and to prove his ability to play in diverse cricket grounds like Bulawayo and Belfast, Abu Dhabi and Sylhet.
While the results of his determination and hard work are seen prominent. During four test matches in 2025, he took 26 wickets at 18.61. He took 6 wickets for 95 while playing against Afghanistan in Bulawayo, while playing against Ireland at Bulawayo got 7 for 58 and got 6 wickets for 73 against Bangladesh in Sylhet.
His marvellous performance made him the first fast bowler to take more than six wickets haul in three test matches in a row, before Malcolm Marshal had this in 1988. Only other players who got this achievement are Imran khan and George Lohmann and Tom Richardson in the 19th century.
How does he feel on becoming the second Zimbabwean bowler to achieve 100 test wickets?
“Yes, that’s a great thing,” he said. “Because I feel like Test wickets are really hard to get, actually, so getting 100 wickets is a big achievement for any fast bowler. That would be really special. I’m working through my processes and everything that happens, of course, we work hard to make sure those things happen. But, as well, I’m not really looking at wickets.”
He seems focused to get victory as he only achieved this for only the second time while playing in 12-Test matches in Sylhet.
“That is something that I would really love to do, to make that impact for the team, get those big wickets, so we can win more often. This is a big journey, playing against big teams. But, of course, I can’t be worried about what I’m going to do, thinking too much about it. The goal is just to win more games.”
“In T20 leagues, you learn a lot of things. You meet new people every day. You have to try to understand the captain that you’re working with. Of course, it’s not every captain that will believe in you, so you have to prove your point and try to improve yourself.” He further added.
