The final game of the ongoing series between Australia and England will be played on 29th September, 2024. The series is evenly poised as of now, whoever will win the 5th one will clinch the series.
Match preview:
What do you expect? When two great cricketing sides play bilateral? When two arch-rivals go up against each other? An exciting and entertaining brand of cricket? Absolutely yes.
This series has been amazing, one to remember, and should have possibly excited fans for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy, 2025. Talking about the series, it feels like suddenly England is getting all the answers and Australia have been inconsistent, particularly with the bat.
Their batting woes continues as Marnus Labuschagne, Glenn Maxwell, and Steve Smith have struggled to put up a decent score with the bat in this series so far, particularly Smith. Marnus though contributed with the bat and ball in the first two ODI of the series, the legendary batter, Smith has failed to find his groove so far in this series.
With Cameron Green being ruled out of the series, the huge responsibility lies on Travis Head as the stand-in skipper Mitchell Marsh yet to fire on all cylinders.
Talking about their bowling attack, it has evidently missed Pat Cummins as Mitchell Starc proved to be expensive so far in the series.
Talking about the England team, they have made a monumental comeback in the ongoing series. Having lost two games, the side has played superb cricket particularly in the last ODI. It seems the side has cracked up the “bazball” approach and has finally found its feet in the 50-over format as well.
The stand-in skipper Harry Brook was amazing in the side’s 186-run victory in the 4th ODI as he scored 87 runs off 58 balls. The most amazing part was he hit only one six in his knock, making sure he plays responsibility and played an impactful knock in a rain-curtailed match.
Besides him, there is just one man who has been just incredible, Liam Livingstone. He has been rock-solid as his name suggests, valuable with bat and bowl. Jofra made a great comeback to his 50-over arena and Matthew Potts was the new hero for the Three Lions as he took 4 wickets for just 38 runs in 8 overs.
While the series is evenly poised, anything can happen when these two sides will take up the field at Bristol.
Pitch and weather report:
The pitch is supposed to assist batters and it would be a relatively easy chase on this ground. But the stakes will be high and there will be pressure on both of the teams. Any of the captains who win the toss, may choose to bat first, to put the other team under pressure.
Head-to-head record:
Out of a total of 160 ODIs played between the two sides, Australia have triumphed in 90 fixtures while England have claimed 65 games.
Predictions:
They are strong now, they are in groove, the momentum will support them, so England is likely to win the decider of the series.
