The highly anticipated Women’s T20 World Cup is set to kick off tomorrow in the United Arab Emirates, with the opening match between host nation Bangladesh and debutants Scotland. Initially scheduled to take place in Bangladesh, the tournament was moved due to political tensions in the country.
This year, a total of 10 teams will compete in 23 matches over the span of 18 days, with the final slated for October 20th. The teams are divided into two groups, A and B.
Australia, the defending champions, will be aiming for their fourth consecutive title, while India and South Africa will be eager to end their trophy droughts after coming close in recent tournaments. Sri Lanka enters the competition with confidence, having defeated India in the final of the Asia Cup earlier this year. Meanwhile, Pakistan embarks on a fresh campaign under newly appointed captain Fatima Sana.
In a landmark decision, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced that the prize money for the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 will match that of the men’s tournament.
