The Pakistan women team is gearing up for the upcoming Ireland series starting from 6th of August. The women in green will play a three match T20i series and it will be the first series for the side in this format after almost 9 months.
Ahead of the series the captain Fatima Sana was engaged in a pre-match press conference where she said that her side is really “looking forward” towards this series.
“When we play, we just want to play because we had a good practice in Pakistan and we had a great camp in Pakistan. So, we did a lot of practice. So, we just want to execute our professions here”
“So, definitely we are looking forward to this series. We already played here in 2022. So, we know the conditions, but yeah, definitely we will play here and we definitely play in Ireland last almost two years before”
When asked about Najiha Alvi, who was selected ahead of Sidra Nawaz, Fatima said that Najiha is a great prospect and if she grooms under the likes of Muneeba Ali it is better for her and the team.
“So, we need a proper keeper. And the way Muneeba is keeping in the past, we have a good option that Najia’s batting lineup was getting stronger because of her. So, obviously, if Najia will groom herself along with Muneeba, then it is a good option for Pakistan”
Fatima came as a bowler but now she has matured herself into a batter as well and time and again she has shown the skills as well. Talking about which number she wants to play she said that whenever her team demands she tries to play there.
“Wherever the team demands, I will try to play there. Whether it is top order or middle order or lower order, wherever the team situation demands, I will play there. I am not thinking of taking revenge, but obviously, when you know in your mind that last time you were 2-1 in the series, then Inshallah, we will try to win this time”
Sana also talked about how her team is adapting well now and is willing to play modern-day cricket.
“Obviously, before the World Cup, we have the South African series. In that, we will try to take the combination that we need in the World Cup. Yeah, definitely, they are improving very well and definitely when we played against them in 2022, so we were 2-1”
“So, we all know that they are playing attacking cricket, so we are ready for this. So, we are looking forward to this series”
Last but not the least she also said that she is upbeat for this series and also happy to see the progress women cricket is making day by day.
“Definitely, the whole Ireland team is good and there are a lot of good players. So, we all want to win the series. So, that’s the main goal is to carry this”
“Definitely, I am young, so I see a lot of things in women’s cricket. It’s growing all over the world and the ICC tries to support every country and that is a very good exposure for everyone. So, that is very great”
