Jason Gillespie thinks Babar’s comeback is around the corner

Jason Gillespie was appointed the head coach of Pakistan’s Test team in April and the recently-concluded Pakistan and Bangladesh was its first assignment with the men in green.

Nevertheless, Gillespie could not attain the desired results as they suffered a shameful defeat against the Bengal Tiger losing a two-match Test series by 2-0. It was Shan Masood’s fifth successive loss in the Test matches as well.

Anyway, the performance of Babar Azam was questionable as well. Many expected that Babar could regain his form against Bangladesh and would smash a long-awaited century but reality was contrary to the expectations.

The right-handed batsman could not even register a fifty let alone score a big knock.

Recently, Jason said that he still has faith in Babar and he thinks that a big score for Babar is around the corner. While speaking to PakPassion, the head coach heaped praise on the struggling batter and hoped for his comeback.

“Look, I’m really comfortable with Babar Azam. I think he’s a quality player. And, you know, yes, he hasn’t scored as many runs as he would like, but he’s working incredibly hard.

He’s the number one one-day player in the world. So he’s doing something right. You know, he’s working hard on a couple of little things with his game.

But, look, I genuinely believe that a big score is just around the corner for Babar. And he’s working hard. He’s technically a very good player”

The head coach further spoke that there is no language barrier and he is comfortable if players want to deliver their message in the Urdu language.

“There’s no language barriers. What I’m learning is that all the players understand when I communicate, when we communicate, the foreign coaches, they understand”

“But sometimes I have a little bit of trouble. The guys whose English isn’t probably as strong as some, they have trouble articulating their point. So look, I’m happy for the boys if they feel more confident and more comfortable to speak in Urdu”

“It’s no problem at all. After all, I’m a foreigner in Pakistan”

Last but not the least, he also touched down on the ongoing connection camp. He said the camp is designed to get to know expectations and concerns of both players and PCB staff members.

“We just want to ask players for them to give us some feedback on their learnings and things that they believe is happening in Pakistan cricket that we can improve. It would be good to have some good listening time and just try and understand how the players are feeling, how everyone working at the PCB is feeling. Let’s just try and align those key pillars so that we’re all moving in the one direction”

Pakistan is all set to face England in a three-match Test series starting from October 7 in Multan and Rawalpindi.

Currently, England is facing Australia in a five-match ODI series, while Pakistan players are featuring in ongoing Champions Cup.
