Mohammad Haris thinks Pakistan is lacking behind in modern-day cricekt

For a long time, Pakistan has failed to put up a great show in the T20 format. They haven’t been able to adopt the dynamics of modern-day cricket. While the world of cricket is moving fast, Pakistan is still sticking to anchors and taking the game deep while now it is all about playing it smartly and outdone your opponent in the powerplay.

In this regard, Mohammad Haris, Pakistan’s wicket-keeper batsman, spoke up about the differences between Pakistan and other global cricket countries in transforming modern cricket.

While giving an exclusive interview to Geo News on Saturday, he openly admitted that at both individual and team levels, Pakistan  is lagging behind other international teams in equipping with the latest techniques of the game.

“The world has gone far ahead of Pakistan when it comes to modern-day cricket,” Haris remarked.

He also said that he keeps modern cricket needs in his mind while attending practice sessions and also he discusses with the cricket experts on how to modify with the latest techniques on a regular basis.

“I train with the demands of modern cricket in mind. I constantly discuss with coaches how to adopt its approach effectively. My target is to play future events in line with modern-day cricket requirements,” he further added.

The young player thinks that the national team can easily work on the differences if they go through with the modern style of cricket. He also talked about the importance of batting order, by saying that it would be more effective if one should be kept at the same batting order consistently. He also gives priority to the collective team’s objectives.

“Batting numbers are crucial for any player, but I am always ready to play at any position. I have no issue batting at various spots because my main goal is to perform for the team regardless of the role,” he expressed.

He also shared that he believes that one should always keep trying to learn and get experience from seniors. The guidelines from competent players always helped him in moving towards a better future, especially Babar Azam who always taught him the quality techniques of a batsman.

“I regularly learn different aspects of batting from senior players. Whenever I get a chance, I talk with experienced players like Babar Azam,” he said.

He also added that you can only learn if you remain focused on your goal and should be hardworking, constantly trying to achieve your targets.

“No matter how much the seniors guide you, in the end, it is the player who must put in the hard work,” Haris explained.

He also highlighted the cognitive approach of the game, by giving importance to the techniques of handling tough situations throughout the game and also learning to dominate the game early.

“Whether it is a big batter or bowler, pressure is on both sides. Sometimes you succeed, sometimes you do not—but my aim is always to dominate the bowler early using my shots,” he further said.

“Batting technique matters a lot in T20s. Good technique makes it easier to adapt in different situations,” Haris concluded.
