Pakistan have announced the squad for the upcoming edition of the emerging Asia Cup. Pakistan will kick start their journey as the title defenders as the side won against India in the final of the last emerging Asia Cup.
Mohammad Haris who played six ODI’s and nine T20’s for Pakistan is the declared captain by Pakistan Cricket Board on Monday to lead Pakistan Shaheens in the coming ACC Men’s T20 Emerging Teams Asia Cup beginning in Oman on 18 October. For the first time this tournament will be played in T20 format.
The team will depart to Oman on 16 October, but before that from 11 to 15 October, the squad will go through a training camp at the Hanif Mohammad High-Performance Centre in Karachi.
Abdul Samad, Ahmed Daniyal, Yasir Khan and Zaman Khan will be debut players in Pakistan Shaheens.
Samad presented for Markhors in the recently concluded Champions One-Day Cup 2024-25 and made a strike rate of 122.88.
Meanwhile, Ahmed Daniyal took ten wickets while playing for the Lions. Yasir played four matches and Zaman took part in two matches, and they both were representing Stallions.
Eight teams will compete in the ACC Emerging Asia Cup. There will be two groups having four teams. The Oman Cricket Academy Ground in Muscat will host all the matches of the tournament.
Teams placed in Group A are Afghanistan ‘A’, Bangladesh ‘A’, Hong Kong and Sri Lanka ‘A’, while defending champions Pakistan Shaheens are placed in Group B including India ‘A’, Oman and UAE.
Shaheen’s will face last year’s finalists India ‘A’ in their first match on 19 October. On 21 October, Shaheens will play against Host team Oman for their second group match and for their third and final group match Shaheens will play opposite the UAE on 23 October.
The semi final match will be qualified by the top performing teams of both groups, decided to happen on 25 October. And Sunday 27 October will be final match day of the tournament
