Usman Qadir, Pakistan men’s cricket team’s player, the legspinner, aged 31, disclosed his decision via social media that his days as a Pakistan cricketer comes to an end.
“Today, I am announcing my retirement from Pakistan cricket,” Qadir said. “As I remember this enduring journey, I want to convey my warm feelings. It was a great pleasure to depict my country, and I’m grateful for the encouragement of my trainers and fellow members who always helped me.”
Qadir played 25 T20s and only one ODI cricket match for Pakistan. In November 2020 he made his debut in a T20I home series against Zimbabwe. His career got off to a superb start as he just gave 60 runs and took Eight wickets in three matches, and he successfully managed to be the Player of the Series.
At his climax, he managed to keep Shadab khan out of the T20 match, as he became Pakistan’s dominant legspinner.
In 2018, he showed his wish to join Australia cricket and he wants to continue his career there. He joined Western Australia in 2018, and played his debut match for the Perth Scorchers and Sydney Thunder in the BBL.
Regardless of his excellent start, discrepancy affected his achievements. He also faced some law and order issues in Australia. In 2019 he was captured for over speeding and was handed over to court.
All of sudden, Misbah-ul-Haq selected him in a Pakistan team for a series in Australia later in 2019, even before Qadir didn’t made a public decision for playing in Pakistan.
Just past few weeks, Qadir’s father and Pakistan’s well known legspinner Abdul Qadir, suddenly died of a heart attack.
Usman said later that his father’s death was a clear reason for him to stay dedicated with his country.
Qadir also showed incompatible performance with Pakistan, too. In October 2023, He played for Pakistan at the Asian Games for the last time. However he also played two matches in the recently played Champions One-Day Cup with the Dolphins.
In the end of his official tenure, his connection with the PCB become very weak and he blamed the board for not handling his injury in proper way in May, stating he had some clues and other data to validate his point.
In his recent statement, Qadir did not show that what he is upcoming with in future. But he acknowledged his father’s love in great words.
“As I’ll start my new journey, I will be carrying my dad’s endowment with me, meeting both my passion for cricket and the lessons he planted in me. I’ll always keep the enthusiasm of Pakistan cricket and beautiful memories made there in my heart”
Sobia Usman, his wife, reacted to this news as a “black day” on social media. She also criticised nepotism and favouritism in the Pakistan cricket.
“We cannot move forward until we support those who truly deserve it,” she wrote.
